Your Second Source in Asia
Single-sourcing a lighting housing is a bet on one plant's calendar, one set of moulds and one quality habit. You only find out what that bet cost you the week something goes wrong — a mould is damaged, the line is full in peak season, or a coating batch drifts and there is nowhere to move the order. JUNKE Global is the second source that does not ask you to buy the part twice: we qualify against the tooling and the specification you already own.
JUNKE Global is a Shanghai-based supplier and exporter of commercial lighting housings, reflectors and aluminium profiles. Much of our work is second-source work. An importer, wholesaler or brand owner already buys a specification from another supplier and wants a qualified alternative that produces the same part on an ordinary week — not a cheaper-looking sample that has to be re-engineered before it is usable.
What a second source has to be
A second source is only worth having if it is interchangeable. That means it is judged on the specification, not on the sample photo — and it means the five items below have to line up before volume is worth moving.
| Element | The requirement | How JUNKE handles it |
|---|---|---|
| Form, fit and function | Cut-outs, interface and mounting must be identical — this decides whether the part assembles at all | Supplied to the buyer's drawing revision; critical callouts measured and reported, not eyeballed |
| Finish and colour | Two sources must look interchangeable on the ceiling, not merely "both black" | Matched to a powder code or a retained coated panel, with salt-spray tested finishes on export orders |
| A specification you own | The drawing, the approved sample and the acceptance criteria must belong to you, not to a supplier | JUNKE works from your file and returns comparable records — the same checkpoints, in the same shape, from both sources |
| Tooling position | Duplicated only where the design genuinely requires it | Standard sections and established housing families carry no tooling charge; proprietary tooling is settled in writing before anything is quoted |
| Everything else | Plant layout, floor process and headcount are not your specification | You buy output. How a supplier arranges its own floor is not part of the qualification |
Where a second source is possible
- Your part runs on an existing section or housing family. A magnetic track profile, a standard panel frame size, an established spotlight body. A second source qualifies against that tooling and there is no new mould to fund. This is the fastest and cheapest second source to build, and where most buyers should start.
- You hold the drawing and the approved sample. If the specification exists in your own file, a second source can be measured against it from the first article.
- You can state the finish reference. A powder code, a retained panel or a coated part is enough for a colour match to be verified rather than argued.
Where it is not
If your part depends on proprietary tooling that is held by another supplier and does not belong to you, a second source cannot be built on it — and no honest supplier should quote as if it could. JUNKE will say this at enquiry stage rather than after a deposit.
For one-off or low-volume parts, the qualification cost usually outweighs the risk it removes, and a single well-run supplier is the better answer. We will tell you that too.
Where JUNKE's own scope sits: specification, qualification, quality control, consolidation and export are JUNKE's own work. Tooling, casting, extrusion and coating are delivered through a qualified supply chain that JUNKE manages and inspects.
Which ranges can be second-sourced today
The ranges below are already tooled, so a second source can be qualified against them without a new mould. Each row links to the full specification.
| Range | Tooling position | Typical entry volume |
|---|---|---|
| Surface mounted downlight housings | Established housing models, no new tooling | 100 pieces per size |
| Architectural spotlights | Standard COB footprints, φ35–φ72 lens families | 50–100 pieces per model |
| Glory Series linear lights | Standard 6063 aluminium sections | 50 m of combined sections |
| Linear aluminium profiles | Stocked profiles from 100 m, no tooling cost | 100 m |
| Magnetic track system | Mainstream 22 × 25 mm interface | 10–20 m trial |
| LED panel lights | Standard 295 and 595 module sizes | 50 pieces per size |
| Wall washers & trimless | Stocked housings, trim and trimless versions | 100 pieces |
Not sure which line fits your part? Send the drawing or a photo of the existing housing and we will say which range is closest — and whether the tooling position actually allows a second source.
How qualification runs with JUNKE
Four stages, run in order. Each one is a gate: if something is going to be wrong, it is cheaper to find it here than in a container.
1. Paper
Send the drawing with its revision, target volume, destination market and certification route. A feasibility note comes back in one to two days, in engineering language — including the tooling position and the MOQ.
2. Sample
First-article samples are measured against the critical callouts, not judged by eye, typically about 15 days after drawing approval. One approved sample is retained by each side.
3. Pilot
A small order in real packaging, to the real destination paperwork. Goods travel with the inspection records and loading photos from that run.
4. Parallel run
The same SKU split across both sources, compared side by side. The gate is interchangeability on your line — not similarity in a photo.
Stage four is the one most buyers skip, and it is the one that settles the question. A second source is not proven by a sample; it is proven by a second batch, produced on an ordinary week, arriving interchangeable with the first source's output.
What to send us
- The drawing with its revision number and the critical dimensions marked.
- The approved sample reference — a retained part, or a photo with measured dimensions if the physical sample cannot be sent.
- A finish and colour reference — a powder code, a panel, or a retained coated part.
- Annual volume and how it is split across sizes.
- Destination market and the certification route you will file under.
If some of that does not exist yet, say so. We will tell you which missing item actually blocks qualification and which one can wait.
