Lighting Selection Guides by Commercial Scene

These guides are built from the selection sheets we use on real projects — large supermarkets, commercial fit-outs, residential schemes, railway stations and metro systems. Each one tells you which housing series fits the environment, what IP rating the space demands, and how many watts the ceiling height will actually need.

IP65 surface mounted downlight housings for supermarket ceilings

Supermarkets & Hypermarkets

High ambient light, very long operating hours, and humidity in the fresh-food zones. Ceilings are usually washed or wiped down, so the housing seal matters as much as the output.

General aisles: Huahang 60–100 W IP65, 60° beam.
Fresh & deli zones: Yushen COB IP65 20–30 W, CRI 97.
Back-of-house: LED panel 48 W, 4000 K.

COB downlight housings for metro and railway station concourses

Metro & Railway Stations

Continuous operation, dust, vibration, and maintenance only inside short overnight windows. Everything here should be serviceable from below without disturbing the ceiling.

Concourses: Huahang 100–150 W IP65.
Corridors & platforms: Ruihang 60–80 W IP65, quick-mount.
Signage & vault: linear aluminium profiles, continuous runs.

Wall washer spotlight housing for hotel and hospitality lighting

Hotels & Hospitality

Visual comfort comes first: low glare, tight beams, and finishes that read as premium under inspection. Guests notice reflected light in a screen or a polished floor more than they notice lux levels.

Guest areas: Convoy 2″–3.5″ 12–25 W, CRI 97, 15–36°.
Displays & art: Bauhaus Great Wall 10–25 W, 24° narrow.
Cove & curtains: Great Wall wall washer 3 W × 4/8.

Glory series linear luminaires for office interiors

Offices & Corporate Interiors

Screen glare is the deciding factor, not raw output. Low UGR and an even ceiling field matter more than lumens per watt on a spec sheet.

Open plan: Glory linear UGR ≤ 16, 40/60/80 W.
Meeting rooms: LED panel 600×600, 4000 K.
Feature ceilings: magnetic track, 10–40 W flood.

Magnetic track system for retail showroom lighting

Retail, Showroom & Residential

Layouts change and displays move. Track systems let the lighting be re-aimed without touching the ceiling, which is what shopfitters and interior designers ask us for most.

Display & shelving: magnetic track, grille 6–24 W.
Feature point: Rome surface COB 10–18 W, CRI 97.
Seamless ceilings: trimless round 2″–2.5″, 10–18 W.

High output COB downlight housing for industrial warehouse lighting

Industrial & Warehouse Fit-Out

High ceilings, wide spans, and dust that settles on the optic. Thermal headroom and a cleanable reflector surface decide whether the fitting lasts the depreciation period.

Workshops: Huahang 150 W IP65.
Storage aisles: 100–120 W, 60° wide beam.
Offices & canteen: panel 48–100 W, 4000 K.

Choosing the IP Rating

IP20 — dry indoor

Decorative and architectural indoor fittings: magnetic track, linear luminaires, trimless downlights. Not suitable where the ceiling is washed or exposed to condensation.

IP54 — indoor, dust and splash

Semi-recessed and surface-mounted general lighting in offices, corridors and most commercial ceilings. Protected against dust ingress and splashing water.

IP65 — wet, dusty, wash-down

Supermarket fresh zones, loading bays, metro platforms, workshops and semi-outdoor canopies. Sealed against water jets — the correct choice wherever the ceiling is cleaned with water.

Questions We Get Asked

Which IP rating do I need for a supermarket or metro project?
Use IP65 for wet, dusty or wash-down areas — supermarket fresh and loading zones, metro platforms, workshops and any ceiling exposed to moisture or dust. IP54 is sufficient for most indoor commercial ceilings and semi-recessed fittings. IP20 applies to dry indoor decorative surface-mounted models such as magnetic track and linear luminaires.
What wattage suits a ceiling of 4 to 6 metres?
For supermarket and warehouse ceilings of 4–6 m we normally recommend 60–100 W in a controlled wide beam, and 100–150 W where the ceiling exceeds 6 m. The Huahang series covers 60–150 W in IP65, and the Ruihang quick-mount series covers the same range where the ceiling is already finished.
Do you supply housings only, or complete fixtures?
Both. We supply bare housings with 36 V aluminium-substrate PCB options for luminaire manufacturers who fit their own engine and driver, and complete fixtures with COB or SMD modules for wholesalers and project contractors.
Can one project mix several series?
Yes, and most projects do. A typical scheme uses one high-output IP65 series for general lighting, a high-CRI COB series for merchandise or fresh-food accent, and a low-glare spotlight series for hospitality and display areas. We hold the same colour temperature and CRI range across series so the layers match.
What beam angle should I choose for retail display lighting?
Narrow beams of 15–24° give crisp accent on merchandise and wall displays; 36–50° suits general ambient layers and larger objects. Our Convoy, Bauhaus and Great Wall series are available in 4°, 8°, 15°, 24°, 36° and 50° with CRI 97 for accurate colour rendering.
Can you work from our selection sheet instead?
Yes. Send the bill of quantities or a schedule of areas and we will return a series-by-series proposal with wattage, beam angle and quantities that you can put straight into a quotation.
